In order to understand the charges applied for servicing and why we are so competitive, we have to look at the dynamics of medical devices. A few criteria apply to all devices. Normally, the higher the risk to patient and staff, the more involved the preventative maintenance service protocols applied to make sure the device is in good order and safe to use. Bioclinworld uses the ECRI risk categorization to establish a device's specific risk level and through an extensive database we managed to class the time it would take for the service of most devices. These indicators tells us that it can take up to an hour for a defibrillator with integrated patient monitor, down to 15 minutes for a small hand held saturation monitor. This include the time applied for making sure that each device conforms to guideline and also includes the time it takes to prepare a certificate of service for the device as well as capturing the device details and parameters on the database. We call this time spent for each device the "book hour" time and once we worked through a complete inventory, it gives us an indication of the total time required to service all the equipment on site. In effect it could mean that a site with a lot of high risk devices will take longer than a site with more "low risk" devices, even if the site with high risk devised has less equipment than the other. The book hour rate includes the following
