How does your charges work? PDF Print E-mail

In order to understand the charges applied for servicing and why we are so competitive, we have to look at the dynamics of medical devices. A few criteria apply to all devices.

Normally, the higher the risk to patient and staff, the more involved the preventative maintenance service protocols applied to make sure the device is in good order and safe to use. Bioclinworld uses the ECRI risk categorization to establish a device's specific risk level and through an extensive database we managed to class the time it would take for the service of most devices.

These indicators tells us that it can take up to an hour for a defibrillator with integrated patient monitor, down to 15 minutes for a small hand held saturation monitor. This include the time applied for making sure that each device conforms to guideline and also includes the time it takes to prepare a certificate of service for the device as well as capturing the device details and parameters on the database.

We call this time spent for each device the "book hour" time and once we worked through a complete inventory, it gives us an indication of the total time required to service all the equipment on site.

In effect it could mean that a site with a lot of high risk devices will take longer than a site with more "low risk" devices, even if the site with high risk devised has less equipment than the other.

The book hour rate includes the following

  • Device soak tests on Analyzers / simulators: Our analyzers and simulators are expensive equipment that requires regular calibration and we allocate a portion of these costs to the book hr rate
  • Service Labour: All our engineers are highly qualified and comes at a cost which is no different than any other company. However, our labour forms part of the book hour rate and therefor the customer does not get any "surprise bills".
  • Corrective labour: We do not charge for corrective labour when it comes to repairs. Our motto is simply that the device has to be serviced and therefor the time has to be spent on the device in any case. That is what we get paid to do.
  • Administration and paperwork: Each high risk device we service gets issued with a preventative maintenance service certificate after the service is complete. This obviously taxes our administrative team resources, but this cost is include in the book hour rate.
  • Administration of database: This is a value added service and comes at no cost to customers who enter into a service agreement with us.

Book hour rates are agreed upon with the customer during the quotation process. For more information regarding this, please send us an e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
